It can be tempting to polish the truth a bit as you are getting your moped insurance quote, but it is vital that you are as honest as possible and answer every question properly. In the even of an accident this can mean the difference between your moped insurance paying out, and not paying out.

Make sure you ring around, starting with specialist moped insurance brokers or providers. In many cases these brokers will know where to find the best moped insurance for you because they specialise in the business of scooter and moped insurance.

If you are not going to be doing many miles on your moped then use this to your advantage with a limited mileage scheme. You can always up the mileage allowance later if you use the moped more then you thought you would.

Another thing worth factoring in is promotions that moped insurance companies sometimes include such as accessories or holiday vouchers. If they are offering something that you will use or want then it can quickly equal a nice cash saving.

Above all remember that insurance alone won’t keep you safe on the road. You must work on your riding skills and take safety seriously. Other road users may not be paying as much attention as you, so be sure to always be on your guard.

The answer is in most cases yes. You will need to contact your local CBT centers and see which ones allow you to bring your own scooter along.

Don’t forget though, your scooter will be subject to a mini-MOT when you arrive, so make sure that it is full working order and road leagal. You don’t want to take it there only to find that they won’t let you use it.

If you are a new rider and have not got your CBT yet then you will probably be better off using one of the CBT centers scooters as you won’t be able to ride your to the CBT center.

Scooter ownership is a great easy way to get on to two wheels all you need to do is take a CBT on a scooter and you are done. Depending on your age you may be restricted to a 50cc moped, but once that restriction is passed you will be able to ride a 125cc scooter, and a 125cc will be enough for local use. In fact I use mine to cover much longer distances, and with a bit of map reading you will be surprised just how far you can get on b roads.

Even if you are not sure if a scooter is right for you then why not go along and do your scooter cbt. It will give you a better road sense no matter what you plan to ride or drive, and is a good fun day. CBT on a scooter! It makes sense.

This is another great reason to do your CBT on a scooter even if you are not sure that two wheels are for you yet. There is no reason to shell out on expensive gear before you have had a real taste of what it is like to be on the road for real.

If you are taking your own equipment for your CBT then you will need to check that it is of a suitable quality. An approved helmet is a must, and there is no point taking gloves with holes in them, or every instructors bugbear – trainers!

If you do want to make an investment before your CBT then I’d suggest that you start with gloves. Wearing a pair which have had a years worth of sweat in them is never to pleasant. Go to your local scooter shop and try on every pair. When you get the right fit it makes all the difference. Check that they are a secure fit buy waving your hand around to make sure they don’t slide off. Check that you are happy with the armour and padding they provide. You will probably end up buying a couple of pairs in the end so that you have a dry pair after a trip in the rain, so note any which may also be a good fit for next time.

If you are lucky enough to have more than one training center near to you, why not ask them what scooters will be available for you to do your scooter CBT. It might then be a case that you can select a center based on them having a scooter like the one you want to buy (a great way to test risde one while you learn).

Above all remember that although you should listen and pay close attention to your instructor, the day should also be an exciting and fun introduction to two wheels. If you feel that you are not comfortable with the CBT scooter they are offering then try another cbt instructor.

I would always take the view that it is best to take your CBT on a scooter that is as near to the size of the scooter you plan to buy as possible. This will give you that little bit of extra experience with the power you are likely to have.

You may also be restricted by the scooters that the CBT test center has available for you to use, so it is always worth ringing around and checking if you can reserve a particular scooter for your CBT day.

Something else you may not know is that is you got a full car driving licence before 1st Feb 2001 then you don’t need to take your CBT to ride a moped. Though to be honest, it is well worth taking the day out to do it. You will learn a lot which you probably won’t have thought of. At the very least, do it for your own safety.
